This is a custom 5'x7' rug woven for a client who purchased a similar rug previously, Red Rock Mirage, shown below. She wanted a larger companion piece that would work with Red Rock Mirage and also incorporate new colors that tie in with her decor. I designed the rug using the same basic colors as Red Rock Mirage and included two greens that coordinate with her walls, one of her favorite colors, new grass green.
Like
Red Rock Mirage, shown below, Dancing Shadows uses asymmetrical,
random shapes that occur throughout on a
base of wide stripes that alternate color. I enjoy weaving these designs
that
let me determine color and shape placement as I work letting the rug
come together in a more painterly fashion. The color palette is decided
and a rough sketch is made before I begin the weaving. When I start
the design
on the loom, I am able to make changes and alterations as I see how
it comes together.
Red Rock Mirage is
a 3'x5' rug that was purchased by the client previously. I used the
same color yarns for Dancing Shadows adding in a few new
highlight colors to accent the living room.
